Port Isabel ,Texas Cemetery

Historical Marker

Encompassing almost one acre of land, the Port Isabel Cemetery is located on property granted to Don Rafael Garcia by the government of Mexico in 1829.

The property was donated to the Catholic Church in 1926. It appears there are no regulations to what plot owners may erect on the plots.

Adam MatthewAdam Matthew born in 1974 and killed by a DWI in 1987 on South Padre Island. (according to the 'native' walking with me).

fisherman
A shrimper. Reducing the image loses the hands extended over the boat on each side. He was born in 1965 and died in 1990.
I found this marker among the pine needles that refuse to let grass grow. What interested me was the base cement bottom but wooden cross. I could not read the name.
champion
This is the family that donated the land. Originally from Italy. (Campeon) Joseph was an early founder of Port Isabel, owned the mercantile. The entire top appears to be concrete.
